WhyPark™ Review: Show Me the Money

How much money you can make with WhyPark can be positively affected by many variables. Small things like writing an article for distribution with a link to a site or adding custom content can increase traffic tremendously. But, I never took the time to do any of these steps.

From July 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007, a six month period, I had 94 domains active at WhyPark. I've sorted my top five domains by earnings, clicks and page impressions. This is a six month period, so annualized the data is multiplied by two.

When looking at these numbers please note, I've never spent much money buying my domains; just $7-$12 per domain by registering virgin domains, using the expired auction after market at TDName or bidding on eBay. I've built up a portfolio of brandable domains that I sell to end users. I just wanted WhyPark to off-set or pay for the annual domain renewal fees. Mission achieved.

Here is a summary of the top 5 domains where I've annualized the earnings.

So now what about the bottom 5 domains. Well let's just say domain earnings look better when you use averages! The 94 domains received 42,108 page impressions, 3,350 clicks and earnings of $1,228.24; not bad for a bunch of domains with virtually no type in traffic. These are domains that earned between next to nothing and nothing at Sedo.

I approached Craig, WhyPark's President, to make an investment in WhyPark solely based on my results. Let's see, I spent $100 and I earned $1200. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that WhyPark's approach to monetizing domains is going to be disruptive to the domain parking industry. I'd suggest at $100 per 100 domains that you snap-up whatever blocks you need before any annual subscription is put in place. It would be hard not to grandfather the early adopters who have helped make WhyPark a great service!

Before I made my angel investment in WhyPark I asked a bunch of friends, unaware of the domain industry, to review my WhyPark sites and offer their criticism. The feedback was all positive, each felt the sites offered useful information and they never would consider the sites as a page of links. Basically they were saying the sites offered a good user experience, one of the tests Google uses to judge a website.

Here is an example of one of my WhyPark sites, AgingList.com. "Aging List" is a term used in business that refers to a list that ages accounts receivable for a company. I themed the site as a way for businesses to raise money fast by using factors or financial service companies who will buy these business debts.

Definition: WhyPark; noun, 1) A service to build websites visitors find engaging and useful. verb, 2) To monetize domains that do not monetize well with domain parking companies.

Are you saying that buying 1 block of 100 now will give you the right as a granddaddy to keep buying blocks for this price later on(after some ultimatumdate) as well?
Any date in mind for new feautures being released and will this fall together with this ultimatum date?
I have been thinking about buying some blocks and building sites,
but do not want to build sites when new features(more/better content options, paid link building) are coming soon where things would become easier/better and I would have to redo a lot of sites again.
Would not mind buying already and waiting till new features are out, but like to know when(nov?) what is going to happen.
Any prices in mind regarding services to build links?
How do you feel about people offering/buying accounts for less than half the value(NP) as they are not using them anymore.Unethical/not smart to buy second hand blocks of 100 domains?

Hi Hennie:

The new platform will go into a two week beta test. The full launch is sooner than November. Yes, the current plan is to allow existing customers to buy more blocks at better terms than what would be available to new customers. WhyPark blocks are non-transferable as stated in our terms of service. I wouldn't recommend buying a second hand account and risk it being closed. That would be wasted money. Yes the new services are priced, but it would be premature to advertise them now. I hope this answers your questions.
